The pairing made up of Romanian tennis player Mihaela Buzarnescu and Belgian Elise Mertens qualified on Thursday in the semifinals of the double event within the International Tennis Federation (ITF) tournament held in Tampico (Mexico), with prizes worth 50,000 US Dollars.
Main seeds Buzarnescu and Mertens defeated the pairing Laura Schaeder (Germany)/Mara Schmidt (USA) in the quarters event, with a score of 6-3, 6-1 in just 63 minutes.
In the quarters the Romanian -Blegian pairing managed to defeat British Freya Christie/Laura Robson, with a score of 6-4, 6-1.
Buzarnescu and Mertens will play in the semifinals with a Mexican pairing, namely the winners of the event between Victoria Rodriguez/Ana Sofia Sanchez (ranked 4th) and Marcela Zacarias/Renata Zarazua, which was interrupted during the super-tie break, when the score was 1-6, 6-3, 4-5.
