The Romanian tennis player Ilinca Amariei was defeated by the Portuguese Francisca Jorge, 7-6 (9/7), 6-3, on Monday in a match of the first round of the Tiriac Foundation Trophy tournament (WTA 125), with total prize money of 115,000 dollarsand hosted by the National Tennis Center.
Amariei (22 years, 357th in WTA) lost after about two hours of play (2 h 03 min).
The Romanian missed a set point in the tiebreak of the opening round, at 7-6, after which Jorge (24 years old, 203rd in WTA) won three points in a row and the set.
In the round of 16, Francisca Jorge will face the winner of Maria Carle (Argentina), the main seed, and Maria Sara Popa.
