The Romanian tennis player Irina Begu, the third seed, qualified on Tuesday in the round of 16 of the Tiriac Foundation Trophy (WTA 125) tournament, with total prizes of 115,000 dollars compatriot Cristina Dinu forfeited at the score of 6-2, 3-0.
Begu (34 years old, 107 WTA), the 2022 champion, was declared the winner after 48 minutes of play.
This was the first confrontation between Begu and Dinu (31 years old, 243 WTA).
Irina Begu, who secured a 2,000-dollar check and 15 WTA points, was coming after winning a tournament of the same category on Sunday in Montreux (Switzerland).
In the round of 16 in Bucharest, Begu will face Patricia Tig (30 years old, 300 WTA), who defeated Irina Bara 6-1, 6-2.
Irina Begu won her only duel with Patricia Tig, in 2012, in the first round in Bucharest, 6-3, 6-2.
Four Romanians managed to reach the round of 16 of the Bucharest tournament: Miriam Bulgaru, Patricia Tig, Anca Todoni and Irina Begu.
