Tennis: Sorana Cirstea qualifies for the semifinals of the WTA tournament in Osaka

Romanian tennis player Sorana Cirstea qualified on Friday for the semifinals of the WTA 250 tournament in Osaka (Japan), with a total prize pool of 275,094 US dollars, after defeating Swiss Viktorija Golubic, 6-2, 2-6, 6-2.

Ciîrstea (35 years old, 51 WTA) sealed her victory after one hour and 43 minutes of playing.

Sorana Cirstea (35 years old, 51 WTA) also won her first meeting with Golubic (33 years old, 60 WTA), in 2023, in the first round in Adelaide, with 6-0, 7-6 (7/1).

The Romanian won a cheque of 11,970 US dollars and 98 WTA points, and in the penultimate act she will face the Canadian Leylah Fernandez, seed no. 4, who defeated Slovak Rebecca Sramkova in the quarterfinals, 7-6 (7/2), 6-3.

It will be the first confrontation between Cirstea and Fernandez (23 years old, 27 WTA).

Romanian tennis player Jaqueline Cristian qualified without playing for the semifinals of the WTA 250 tournament in Osaka (Japan), after the Japanese Naomi Osaka, seed no. 1, was forced to abandon before the scheduled match, on Friday, in the quarterfinals.

In the semifinals, Jaqueline Cristian (27 years old, 47 WTA) will face the winner between Czech Tereza Valentova and Serbian Olga Danilovic, seed no. 6.
