Thousands of people are waiting on Friday afternoon, on the next day of national mourning, at the Royal Palace, to pay their last respects to King Mihai.
In the Hall of the Throne, those who stood in line to reach the royal catafalque could admire the orders and medals received by King Mihai during his life. Upon departure, those who admired the former sovereign left a message in the book of condolences.
On Friday, among those who paid a last tribute to the King were also representatives of Retromobil Club Romania, where the former sovereign was a member.
"King Mihai was a symbol of resistance, because, in addition to all the difficulties he had to face because of history, he managed to overcome all the obstacles," said Dan Cazacu, a member of Retromobil Club Romania.
Among those who laid at the Royal Palace a wreath in memory of King Mihai was also Teodor Maries, President of the December 21, 1989 Association. "We have come to the Royal Palace out of respect for His Majesty and for our forefathers. We wanted to lay a wreath and pay a last tribute to King Mihai for everything he has done for Romania," said Teodor Maries, who believes that King Mihai "meant a hope after 1989 for Romania".
Members of several student associations, young people and elderly people, many of them coming from different cities of the country, have laid wreaths or bouquets of flowers and lit candles at the Royal Palace.
