The turnover in market services provided to the population decreased by 1.9%, as unadjusted series, in the first two months of this year, compared to 2024, the same trend being recorded in the case of the working day and seasonally adjusted series (-2.6%), shows data published on Wednesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
According to the official statistics, in the period January 1 - February 28, 2025, the decrease in turnover in market services rendered to the population, as unadjusted series, was due to the results in the activities of tourist agencies and tour operators (-20.1%) and gambling and other recreational activities (-11.3%).
On the other hand, there were increases in hairdressing and other beauty services (+22.9%), washing and (dry-)cleaning of textile and fur products (+7.8%) and activities of hotels and restaurants (+1.1%).
On a working day and seasonally adjusted basis, the turnover of market services provided to the population decreased by 2.6% year-on-year.
According to the cited source, the activity of market services rendered to the population, as unadjusted series, recorded a turnover by 3.5% lower in February 2025 than in February 2024, as a result of decreases in gambling and other recreational activities (-14%), activities of tourist agencies and tour operators (-13.1%) and activities of hotels and restaurants (-0.6%). On the other hand, there were increases in hairdressing and other beauty services (+20.4%) and washing and (dry-)cleaning of textile and fur products (+3.9%).
Turnover from the same type of activity, as adjusted series, fell by 3.2% in the second month of 2025, compared with the similar period of the previous year.
On a month-on-month basis (February compared to January 2025), market services provided to the population, as unadjusted series, reported a 4.9% decrease in turnover, against the background of the activities of tourist agencies and tour operators (-8.5%), washing and (dry-)cleaning of textiles and fur products (-7%), gambling and other recreational activities (-6.9%), hotels and restaurants (-4.4%) and hairdressing and other beauty treatment (-0.7%).
The turnover volume of market services provided to the population, as working day and seasonally adjusted series, was 0.9% lower from February to January 2025.
