Three men aged between 33 and 37 are being investigated by prosecutors with the Calarasi Directorate for the Investigation of Organised Crime and Terror (DIICOT) in a case concerning the smuggling high-risk medicines into the country, trafficking in high-risk medicines and possession for sale of said drugs.
"From investigations so far, it resulted that, between September 29 and October 2, 2024, two of the defendants purchased from Spain approximately 23 kilograms of cannabis (high-risk medicines), which they introduced into Romania through a delivery company, hidden in two packages, being caught red-handed, successively, in the cities of Calarasi and Bucharest, while they took over and respectively possessed the drugs. The investigation also revealed RON 87,000 cash and seized from one of the defendants," DIICOT reported on Friday.
During a search carried out in Bucharest at the address of the 33-year-old defendant, another approximately 13 kilograms of cannabis were found and seized, RON 123,840 and EUR 30,510, an electronic vacuum device, Ziploc bags, as well as other means of evidence.
Two of the defendants were detained under a 30-day pre-trial arrest warrant issued by the Calarasi Tribunal.
The third defendant is being investigated in custody.
