Romanian female wrestlers Madalina Margareta Pavel ( 53 kg) and Sophia Ioana Anastase (cat. 69 kg) on Thursday secured their presence in the repechages at the Under-17 World Wrestling Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan, according to Agerpres.
In the 53 kg category, Pavel lost in the preliminaries to Indian Akshara Akshara, and on Friday in the repechages she will face Uzbek Sabrina Abdreimova.
In the 69 kg category, Sophia Ioana Anastase defeated Uzbek Zakhsanem Toreniazova in the preliminaries, then Ukrainian Marusia Gaidamanchuk, but lost in the quarterfinals to American Taina Rose Fernandez.
Oana Izabela Dumitru was defeated in the 61 kg preliminaries by the Spanish wrestler Graciela Gaudencia Eningo Asama.
Vlad Ioan Trip brought on Tuesday Romania's only medal at the U17 World Championships, bronze in men's Greco-Roman 55 kg.
In the free style competition, Romania will be represented by two Stefan Puscas (men's 60 kg) and Istvan Nagy (men's 65 kg).
