Romanian athletes recorded two victories and two defeats on Wednesday, on the opening day of the European U17 Boxing Championships, which is held in Kienbaum, Germany.
Andrei-Robert Iofciu qualified for the round of 16 in the 75 kg category after defeating Israel's Maks Meltser on points (5-0).
On Thursday, in the round of 16, Iofciu will face off Germany's Patrik Muller.
In the women's 50 kg category, Iasmina-Georgiana Moraru won on points (3-2) against Greece's Maria Evangelia Leon.
Moraru will box in the quarter-finals against Ireland's Lucie Prentice on 14 December.
In the 44-46 kg category, Mihaela-Gabriela Dobre lost in the first round on points (0-5) to Croatia's Ema Andjela Zaja.
Andreea-Ionela Negoiata was also defeated in the first round, in the 54 kg category, by Poland's Aleksandra Halbina on points, 3-2.
Romania is taking part with 24 athletes, 12 men and 12 women, in the European U17 Boxing Championships in Kienbaum (Germany) held between 10 and 17 December, with the aim of securing 1-2 medals and 1-2 fifth-place finishes.
