As many as 12 citizens from Ukraine were discovered on Romanian soil by the border police and have requested asylum, Border Police Inspectorate (ITPF) Sighetu Marmatiei spokesperson, Iulia Stan, informed on Tuesday.
"Yesterday, March 7, 2022, at different times, our workers within the Sighetu Marmatiei Border Police sector have identified 12 Ukrainian citizens, male, with ages between 36 and 56, who crossed through the Tisa river, from Ukraine to Romania. They were identified in the direction of border cities of Sighetu Marmatiei and Tisa. The border police from Sarasau and Valea Viseului have also identified a Ukrainian citizen each in the direction of Sarasau and Valea Viseului, male, both 30 years of age," the representative of ITPF Sighetu Marmatiei specified.
According to the same source, all Ukrainian citizens have requested a form of protection from the Romanian state, which is why specific procedures were launched in these cases.
