Several Ukrainian men who were trying to reach Romania, of whom one has died, are stranded in the northern Mountains of Maramures, at an altitude of over 1,900 meters, where they are being searched by a SMURD (Mobile Emergency Service for Resuscitation and Extrication) helicopter, the spokesperson for Maramures County Council for Emergency Situations (CJSU), Dan Buca, informed on Wednesday, Agerpres reports.
"A SMURD helicopter within General Aviation Inspectorate from the Ministry of Internal Affairs is hovering over the frontier area in sector 354-370, in the Pop Ivan Massif (from the Mountains of Maramures, ed. n), for rescuing people that requested help," Dan Buca said.
Two rescuers from Ukraine arrived during the night between Tuesday and Wednesday to the group of men stranded in the alpine area, who requested the support of Romanian authorities.
