Trade unionists in the penitentiary system are launching protest actions as Monday, to show their dissatisfaction ''with the institutional chaos, the lack of transparency and the restructuring intentions lacking objective foundations''.

''The National Union of Penitentiary Policemen (SNPP), member of the PUBLISIND Federation and the National Trade Union Bloc, and the Federation of Penitentiary System Unions (FSSP), together representing 70% of the penitentiary policemen, are launching protest actions'', according to a press release sent to AGERPRES on Monday.

According to the same source, over October 20 - 31, protest messages will be displayed at the headquarters of the National Penitentiary Administration throughout the working hours.

At the same time, on October 23, 2,000 prison police officers will protest in front of the Ministry of Justice ''against institutional chaos, lack of transparency and restructuring intentions lacking objective foundations''.

Depending on the outcome of the discussions, a calendar of protests is to be established until the end of the year, the same source states.

The trade unionists also say that they will protest against the abolition, without real dialogue, of some units of the Penitentiary Police, ''under the guise of alleged reforms that in reality negatively impact the state budget and make the main missions of the penitentiary system vulnerable''.

''We will not accept any restructuring measure that is not discussed with the social partners, in a transparent and reasoned manner, in the Joint Commission of the Ministry of Justice, as previously agreed with the Ministry of Justice itself. The Penitentiary Police needs an appropriate budget to manage the new spaces put into use in line with the expansion of detention capacity, in order to eliminate ECHR sanctions, fines and guarantees that put pressure on the state budget. Therefore, we ask the ANP and the Ministry of Justice to make every effort to correct the budget deficit in which the penitentiary system is already struggling and not to do everything possible to cut from what we do not have,'' the unionists sent.
