All projects carried out at the level of the Ministry of Waters and Forests, including investments via the basin administrations, I will monitor personally, Minister of Waters, Ioan Denes, told a press conference occasioned by the World Water Day on Thursday.

"It is essential for the water field to use the allocated funds at the maximum, regardless if we are talking about flood risk management, protection against coast erosion or building water supply and sewerage systems (...) It is absolutely necessary at all levels of the Ministry of Waters and Forests and the National Administration "Romanian Waters" to be taken all the efforts necessary to access available funds for defence against floods and protection against coast erosion (...) On March 8 precisely we signed, at the headquarters of the Ministry, alongside the heads of the Water Basin Administrations (ABA) in the country, the specifications for 13 projects financed via POIM, AXA 5, Specific Objective 5.1 - for mitigating effects and damages caused to population by natural phenomena having to do with the main accentuated risks of climate changes, especially floods and coast erosion. I want to underscore the fact that, regardless of the form and status of financing - European funds and state budget, projects now underway, pending or intended by the Ministry, including investments in projects to be developed by the Basin Administration, I will personally monitor all that," Denes pointed out.

According to the Minister, the extreme meteorological effects caused by the climate changes affect numerous regions of the world, including Romania.

According to the Minister of Waters and Forestry, at national level, there is need to setup again the areas with forests and wet areas, the rivers connectivity with floodplain meadows and to create areas of protection with vegetation, along the water courses, so as to mitigate floods effects.

The Ministry of Waters and Forests on Thursday organized, alongside the National Administration "Romanian Waters" and the Academy of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences "Gheorghe Ionescu - Sisesti," the symposium dedicated to the celebration of the World Water Day.
