The potential of the region is huge, president Klaus Iohannis declared, on Thursday, at the Business Forum of the Three Seas Initiative, adding that there is a need for major infrastructure development projects to continue with the involvement of other EU states, as well as from the Western Balkans and the Eastern Neighbourhood.

"Truly, by strengthening the strategic resilience of the countries in the neighbourhood of the European Union, we can really contribute to our own resilience as a whole. In order to attract and promote investment, we must take responsibility for recalibrating, strengthening and diversifying the Initiative's instruments. Initiatives supported yesterday (Wednesday, ed. n.) at summit, such as the establishment of an Innovation Fund and the creation of a successor to the current Investment Fund, can offer flexibility and perspective to the financing of innovative projects and an adequate response to the investment appetite of the region," president Iohannis said, at the opening of the 3SI Business Forum, agerpres reports.

He stated that attracting investment is a very important topic for the Forum's discussion, whether it is about the transport, the energy or the digital field.

"I encourage you to capitalize on the business-to-business and business-to-government Forum meetings so that business and investment opportunities become projects implemented quickly and efficiently," Iohannis said.

The Romanian president emphasized that the major regional political objective, in the current context, is the consolidation of civil and military connectivity between the north and the south of the region, because the economic interdependence could be used dangerously against us.

Iohannis mentioned that, in the context of the war against Ukraine, due to the strategic position of the Port of Constanta and the ports on the Danube, Romania turned into the largest European grain hub.

The president specified that the civilian nuclear energy sector could also represent a direction of strategic interest for the Initiative, showing that through projects such as the construction of reactors 3 and 4 of the Cernavoda Power Plant and the development of the first small modular reactor plant in Europe and the second in world Romania can become an important provider of energy security regionally and for the entire European Union.

He also said that, at Romania's initiative, in the last year, special attention was paid within I3M and cyber security.
