The Minister of Sports, Eduard Novak, on Thursday announced, during a visit to Arad, that 60 athletes from the national kayak-canoe team of Ukraine will be hosted in Romania, at the Navasart sports complex, in the next period, until the end of the armed conflict in the neighbouring country.
The minister said the request was addressed to Romania last week, and the Ukrainian athletes will arrive in a couple of days.
He added that Romania had received other similar requests as well, such as from the national cycling team of Ukraine, but these athletes "were reoriented towards Hungary", in the end. "I think other national teams will come in the future," he said.
Eduard Novak also referred to the refugees from the neighbouring country, stating that Romania has provided 700 places for their accommodation in sports facilities, but that the flow of Ukrainians is now lower to a few dozen people a day, most of them in transit through our country.
