Inspectors of the Buzau Veterinary and Food Safety Directorate (DSVSA) have withdrawn from sale more than 600 kilogrammes of hake after larvae of Anisakis spp. were detected, as well as another 90 kilogrammes of non-compliant fish, following food safety checks.

According to DSVSA Buzau, in October inspections were carried out at 421 economic operators along the entire chain from production to sale, focusing among other things on compliance with general hygiene conditions, traceability requirements and the labelling of food products.

'Following the inspections the following non-compliance instances were found: structural deficiencies, lack of health checks, failure to monitor the temperature in cold storage areas, labelling deficiencies, and improper storage and handling of food products. As a result of these non-compliance instances 11 fines totalling 56,600 lei and 28 warnings were issued,' DSVSA Buzau reports.

The institution also took more than 280 samples of food products to determine whether they complied with legal requirements.

'In the same period DSVSA Buzau acted to resolve eight non-compliance notifications received via the Administrative Assistance and Cooperation System and 610 kilogrammes of hake trunks were withdrawn from sale due to the detection of Anisakis spp. larvae and 90 kilogrammes of fish were withdrawn due to a non-compliant protein to water ratio,' the source mentions.

During its activities DSVSA Buzau also resolved three food alerts received through the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed.
