The Romanian Senate is prepared to convene for a new extraordinary session following the Constitutional Court's ruling on the Integrity Law and to rapidly complete the necessary legislative steps, Mircea Abrudean, President of the Parliament's Upper House, announced on Monday.
"Romania retains nearly one billion euros from the NRRP after the Constitutional Court rejected the challenge against the Biodiversity Law. This is good news for Romania and for projects funded through the NRRP. The national strategy for biodiversity conservation is a key milestone, and meeting it safeguards approximately 972 million euros in funding. At this stage, every NRRP milestone counts. Romania must honor its commitments and avoid losing European funds due to political gridlock. The Romanian Senate is prepared to convene for a new extraordinary session following the Constitutional Court's ruling on the Integrity Law and to swiftly complete the necessary legislative steps," Mircea Abrudean wrote on his Facebook page.
On Monday, the Constitutional Court, by a majority vote, rejected the objection of unconstitutionality and ruled that the Law approving the National Strategy and Action Plan for Biodiversity Conservation 2026-2030 is constitutional with regard to the raised objections.
The Court also ruled as constitutional an amendment to the Integrity Law introduced at the request of the PSD and AUR under which elected officials found to be in a state of incompatibility or conflict of interest lose their offices.
By a majority vote, the Constitutional Court declared constitutional the statutory provision stipulating the automatic termination of a public office or dignity 30 days after the law's entry into force.
At the same time, the Constitutional Court declared the phrase "person having a relationship similar to that between spouses" contained in the law amending and supplementing certain normative acts regarding integrity to be unconstitutional. AGERPRES
