Romania's Commissioner for the Venice Art Biennale, Attila Kim, stated on Wednesday that the project titled "Tu esti un alt Eu - O catedrala a corpului" (You Are Another Me - A Cathedral of the Body) of Adina Pintilie will bring to the Venice Biennale stage "a universally valid perspective noteworthy through the promotion of diversity and inclusion."

"The project bring a significant contribution to current conversations that evaluate the norms in matters of gender, ability and body diversity, its concept fitting the theme of the Biennale this year," said Attila Kim in a press conference.

He said that through Adina Pintilie's project, Romania is participating for the second time in the Biennale with a one woman show, after the one presented by Geta Bratescu, Agerpres.ro informs.

"Romania is in an unique position since 2016, since the Architecture Biennale, we are the only country that has its national participation in two different spaces, beside the space that Romania owns since 1938 in the Giardini della Biennale, Romania's pavilion, a very important component of our participation is also the New gallery of the Romanian Cultural Institute in Venice. (...) Starting with 2016, according to the new rule of the Biennale Foundation, a participating country can have in the official programme two locations only if the second location belongs to a state cultural institution. Thus, for this reason Romania, next week, will have two showings, one in Romania's pavilion, which will take place in Romania's pavilion, on April 21, 17:15, and on April 22, 16:00 in the New gallery of the Romanian Cultural Institute," Attila Kim said.

Curated by Cosmin Costinas and Viktor Neumann, the project titled "Tu esti un alt eu - O catedrala a corpului"/"You Are Another Me - A Cathedral of the Body" represents the new stage in the research process, in several languages and artistic disciplines, on intimacy and corporality, initiated by Adina Pintilie in 2010 and publicly manifested in a previous stage, in the realm of cinema, through the feature film "Touch Me Not" in 2018.

"The project was thought out several years ago as a research project in different languages and started rather from an existential reality, namely that with age I was discovering how I grew up with certain ideas regarding intimacy, regarding rationality and how real life is very different from these matters. Somehow, together with my collaborators, we started a process of unlearning what we know and rediscovery," said Adina Pintilie.

The opening of the exhibition which will represent Romania in the 59th edition of the Venice Art Biennale, You Are Another Me - A Cathedral of the Body, of artist and director Adina Pintilie, will take place on April 21, in Romania's pavilion in the Giardini della Biennale, at local time 17:15. The event will be followed by the exhibition of the virtual reality installation hosted by the New Gallery of the Romanian Cultural and Humanistic Research Institute in Venice, scheduled for April 22, starting with 16:00.

Designated to represent Romania at the Venice Art Biennale in 2022, following the competition organized by the Culture Ministry, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Romanian Cultural Institute, the exhibition "You Are Another Me - A Cathedral of the Body" can be visited publicly in the April 23 - November 27 period.
