Capping the commercial mark-up on basic foods was a very good measure, which can also be taken for energy, says the minister of agriculture, Florin Barbu.
He gave this answer when asked if there was any possibility that the capping scheme for the commercial mark-up on foodstuffs could be extended after July 1.
"We haven't had that discussion yet. Of course, at the Ministry of Agriculture, we have set up the price monitoring committee, and a decision will certainly be made when the new government is formed. We will have a discussion, but I believe that, at the moment, the market is stable, and the monitoring committee is doing a very good job," said Florin Barbu.
The minister believes that abandoning the capping of the commercial mark-up may generate price increases, considering the expected abandonment of the energy capping measure from July 1.
"Of course, we need to do an analysis, and I said it should be based on the same model, because capping the commercial markup on basic foods was a very good measure, and I think the same measure can be taken on energy. There will be a discussion with the new prime minister and, of course, at the government level," Barbu also stated.
