The Maneciu and Paltinu reservoirs played a crucial role in mitigating two significant flood waves triggered by heavy rainfall in Prahova County, where precipitation exceeded 200 l/sq m, the "Romanian Waters" National Administration (ANAR) announced on Monday.

According to the institution, an intense precipitation core formed over the Maneciu and Paltinu reservoir areas, with Maneciu recording historic inflow levels.

"At the Maneciu reservoir, on the Teleajen River, the upstream flood wave was absorbed and attenuated in the reservoir. Following the high-intensity rainfall recorded in the upstream basins, the inflow rose rapidly to around 250 cubic meters per second, while the downstream discharge was kept to a maximum of 60 cubic meters per second," ANAR said.

At the Paltinu reservoir, preventive operating measures were taken, including a controlled discharge of approximately 18 cubic meters per second.

"In the Paltinu reservoir, more than 6 million cubic metres of water were attenuated, with controlled releases of around 18 cubic meters per second," the institution added.

Authorities warn that the risk of flooding and increased water turbidity is still lingering in the two reservoir areas, and precipitation, flows and hydrotechnical operations are being continuously monitored.

Measures have also been announced to maintain water supply for localities served by the Voila and Valenii de Munte treatment plants. Controlled filling of the clean-water basin will begin, and two high-capacity pumps will be installed at the Izvoarele polder intake.

In Vrancea County, in the village of Bogza, rainfall exceeded 100 l/sq m, and teams from the Vrancea Water Management System are prepared to intervene to recalibrate the Slimnic streambed.

The National Institute of Hydrology and Water Management has issued a hydrological warning effective until Tuesday at 12:00 for several river basins, while an Orange Code remains in effect for the Miletin River at the Sipote hydrometric station in Iasi County until June 9 at 06:00.
