AnimaWings, a 100% Romanian-owned airline, received on Tuesday a new Airbus A220-300 aircraft - its third of this model and the fifth in its operational fleet, as the company aims to expand its fleet to 18 aircraft by the end of 2027, with a total estimated value of over one billion US dollars.
'This fifth aircraft is part of an order for 18 units, scheduled to be delivered over the next two years. Four more aircraft will be delivered in the first half of next year, with the remaining to follow in 2027,' Memento Group President Cristian Pandel said, at the inauguration event for the new Airbus A220 aircraft joining the AnimaWings fleet.
The new aircraft, alongside the existing ones, will be used on both domestic and international routes. Company representatives said their objective is to "connect Romania's historical regions, linking Bucharest with major cities across the country, and to attract passengers and tourists to Romania."
'This is a national project focused on air transport, connectivity and tourism. Anima aims to bring tourists into Romania. The country needs more inbound tourism, more foreign visitors. We are a private company, 100% Romanian, and it's important to emphasise that we pay all our taxes in Romania. Our pilots pay taxes in Romania, and our aircraft generate added value for local communities and the country. This is our mission: aviation plus tourism,' Pandel added.
Starting this autumn, the airline will operate 12 new routes, strengthening its domestic network and linking Romania's main airports (Otopeni, Cluj, Iasi, Craiova, Timisoara and Suceava) with key European and international destinations, including Istanbul, Munich, Prague, Sofia, Tel Aviv and Dubai.
Development plans will continue into 2026, with new additions such as the Bucharest-Geneva route, the only direct air connection between the two cities, available from March next year.
'In a market dominated by low-cost carriers, we want to prove that solid aviation projects with significant investment and a European vision can also be built in Romania. AnimaWings is the first full-service private Romanian airline, standing out for its comfort and excellence. Our aim is to quickly become the number one choice for Romanian passengers and beyond, putting Romania in its rightful place on the European aviation map, both in terms of connectivity and respect for passengers,' said Marius Pandel, President of AnimaWings.
AnimaWings offers three service classes - Business Class, Premium Economy and Economy - designed to meet a wide range of travel needs.
On board, passengers enjoy premium catering inspired by modern Romanian cuisine, and a highly trained crew dedicated to ensuring every traveller's safety and comfort.
AnimaWings is a 100% Romanian airline launched in 2020 and is part of the Memento Group, alongside tour operator Christian Tour.
