The Mures County Museum announced on Tuesday that the inscription of the Calugareni Roman fort and vicus on the UNESCO World Heritage List, as part of the "Roman Empire Frontiers - Dacia" site, will be marked with an Archeology Day celebration on August 17.

"The Mures County Museum is pleased to invite you on Saturday, August 17, between 10:00 and 19:00 to the special event titled Archeology Day, which will take place in the Calugareni Archaeological Park (Eremitu commune, Mures County). This event marks the inclusion of the site on the UNESCO World Heritage List, offering the public a unique opportunity to discover the results of the archaeological excavations. Amid ongoing restoration and development works at the Calugareni Archaeological Park, which began in 2023 and are scheduled to end in 2026, the Roman Festival in Calugareni will take a short break, but in the meantime we are waiting for you to attend Archeology Days, an intimate and captivating event where you will be able to see first-hand the progress on this site. This important project, that is being financed with 2.5 million euros (VAT included) under the NRRP, was officially launched on October 19, 2023 and it is estimated that it will significantly transform the Archaeological Park," the Mures County Museum said in a release.

The event is organized in cooperation with the Babes-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca, the Humboldt University in Berlin, Pázmány Péter Catholic University in Budapest, the Milites Marisensis Association, and the Teatrul Sura (Barn Theater) Association, and is financed by the Mures County Council, the Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Program TRoHELD 3, and the Limes National Program.

The "Roman Empire Frontiers - Dacia" site that was recently inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List also includes nine locations in Mures County: Brancovenesti, Calugareni, Sarateni, Vatava, Ideciu de Sus, Ibanesti, Chiheru de Jos, Eremitu, and Campu Cetatii.
