AGERPRES special correspondent Daniel Florea reports: Donald Trump's victory in the US presidential election gives an extraordinarily important boost to conservative movements, said the president of National Leadership Council (CNC) of the Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR), MEP Claudiu Tarziu.

Claudiu Tarziu is taking part in the debate "Defending Western Values in the European Parliament", organized by the EP group of Conservatives and Reformists as part of the international conference "Make Europe Great Again (MEGA)", an event taking place in Brussels on Tuesday and Wednesday.

"The change of administration at the White House is helping us a lot, we are getting a tremendous boost. The European leaders have seen that the people have an extraordinarily great instinct, a good instinct, an instinct of conservation and that they are counting on the rebirth of the conservative movement, and Donald Trump's victory in the presidential elections in the United States, as I said, gives a boost to the entire international movement along these lines. We sincerely believe that through such events we get to know each other better and, more than that, we manage to find concrete ways of working together, because there is a long distance from theory to practice, but time is running out. We need to act swiftly, we need to act now, but, of course, ahead of every political action there is political thinking. In today's event we are once again expressing that conservative political thinking that governs our political action. And, as you have seen, the participants are enthusiastic, they participate with pleasure in this event, it is not one that they tick off or a boring one, attended for show that and that is why we are very happy that at our initiative, the political group to which we belong in the European Parliament, the European Conservatives and Reformists Group, has agreed to organize these debates under the generous title: Let's make Europe great again!," Claudiu Tarziu told the Romanian press present at the event on Tuesday.

He was asked whether the AUR representatives discussed Romania's current problems with their ECR partners.

"First of all, we were happy to see that our allies, our partners in international political action, the conservatives, have not been swayed by the propaganda that has been carried out in Romania, and from there with ramifications into the whole world, against democracy, against freedom, against freedom of speech, against the rule of law. Because this is what happened in Romania, since the coup d'état of December 6, we have seen an aggressive propaganda against what makes Romania a state based on the rule of law, a member state in the EU and NATO. Very few people have noticed this, we are delivering blows at our national interest precisely from the perspective that we say we are defending, namely that of our belonging to the civilized world, to international organizations that offer us a framework for peace and prosperity. All our European and American colleagues have realized the falsity of this propaganda, have disavowed it, have exposed it in their own countries, and here they have assured us, once again, of their important support," said Claudiu Tarziu.

He explained that the support to which he referred is shown not only at the level of the European Parliament, but also in the national parliaments of the countries that the ECR members represent, "where governments become aware of the situation in Romania".

"These governments, in their turn, can take a stand and can help put Romania back on the democratic path," Tarziu emphasized.

He pointed out during the panel titled "EU and the Western Hemisphere - Cultural Ties, Economic Development and Democratic Cooperation" that "the values of the free world have in common elements such as competition, the winning spirit, unwavering faith, and the ambition to overcome any obstacle".

"And none of those who have achieved performance in the West has not received laurels for nothing, without effort, without proving their enterprising spirit, without risking, without working tirelessly. No one has ever gotten anything for free, no explorer, no inventor or leader, no person of culture who has really achieved performance and who has been, has reached a high level only by ambition, by courage, by talent, by intelligence and by hard work. Today, we look around and see that we have come to live in a world that no longer values all of these, neither ambition, nor courage, nor competition. Here, too, an equalization is sought, between those who have certain gifts from nature, from God, and those who do not. Today we have come to live in a world of privilege and arbitrariness, in other words, a world that is the exact opposite of the one we want," said Tarziu.

In this context, he accused that freedom of expression is now "only the right of a citizen to agree with the regime's dogmas, and censorship has reached a level that would make the communist dictators of the 1950s envious."
