Spokesman of the Alliance for the Union of Romania (AUR) Dan Tanasa emphasizes that the partnership with the U.S. must be an authentic cooperation based on the defense of democratic values, and advocates the resumption of the second round of the presidential election so that "Romanians are able to freely choose their president."

"The speech of the U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance definitively concludes the scandal of the annulment of Romania's presidential election. The international confirmation of this abuse represents a victory for democracy and a clear signal that this fraud will not remain without consequences. The presidential election was canceled based on 'flimsy' suspicions! AUR has denounced this from the very first day: there was no real justification to cancel the election! It was all based on a ridiculous, made up pretext. The PSD and PNL orchestrated a coup d'état, and now the entire world is beginning to see the truth! After the departure of the top usurper Klaus Iohannis, it is time for the second bossyboots of the country, Marcel Ciolacu, to leave as well! Romania must return to democracy! The second round of the presidential election must be resumed, and Romanians must be able to freely choose their president," Tanasa said in a statement published on the party's website on Friday, said Agerpress.

According to him, "U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance's statement shatters the PSD-PNL propaganda and shows that the entire world has understood what happened.

"But our fight does not end here. We will continue to denounce this coup and battle for the second round to resume! As a conclusion: what a huge display of hypocrisy on the part of politicians and analysts who until yesterday were giving praise to the U.S., but now, just because a Republican has spoken the truth about the election in Romania, suddenly changed sides to being 'anti-American'! Where are all those 'pro-Westerners' who were accusing AUR of anti-Americanism just because we were demanding respect and fair partnerships? Today we see who the real opponents of the Romania-U.S. strategic partnership are: those who change their beliefs depending on how the wind at the White House blows! These people have no backbone, no vision, only momentary interests. The partnership with the U.S. must not be blind submission to a political camp, but an authentic cooperation based on mutual respect and the defense of democratic values. And we, AUR, will always be on the side of democracy and freedom!," AUR deputy Dan Tanasa added.

In remarks delivered at the Munich Security Conference on Friday, U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance accused the U.S.'s European allies of censoring free speech and undermining democratic values, criticizing in this regard the position of a former European commissioner who welcomed the decision to cancel the presidential election in Romania, a decision Vance said was taken "based on flimsy suspicions by an intelligence agency" and following enormous pressure by Romania's continental neighbors.
