The Ambassador of the Republic of Austria to Romania, Mrs. Adelheid Folie, underscored, on Monday, in Constanta, the growing strategic importance that the Black Sea region has for the European states, told Agerpres.
The Constanta City Hall informed that Mayor Vergil Chitac welcomed Austrian Ambassador to Romania Adelheid Folie, on a "a courtesy visit." The meeting was also attended by representatives of the Austrian diplomatic mission to Romania, as well as Honorary Consul of Austria in Constanta Mihail Puiu. Topics of interest have been tackled, including the cooperation in the economic, cultural and scientific area.
"Due to Romania's ability to highlight the strategic relevance of the Black Sea region in various European and Euro-Atlantic formats, the strategic dimension of the region is increasingly more frequently and firmly recognized by the European states, and the presence of numerous foreign officials at the geopolitical events taking place these days in Bucharest (NATO Foreign Affairs Ministers' Meeting, the Munich Leaders Meeting, etc.) confirms the growth of their countries' interest in the extended Black Sea region," Ambassador Adelheid Folie stated, according to a release sent by the Constanta City Hall.
Furthermore, Mayor Vergil Chitac underscored the city and local community efforts to grant a multiple support for the Ukrainian refugees settled in Constanta in the context of the Russian Federation's war of aggression against Ukraine, as well as the assistance and support given to the partner municipality of Odessa in the mentioned context.
"The main support measures were evoked, including the current initiative, undergoing implementation, to donate electric generators to Odessa, for the urgent needs of Odessa's residents, who are directly affected by the energy crisis generated by the Russian bombing," the City Hall mentions.
According to the Constanta City hall, within the meeting, it was argued that the war in Ukraine generated multiple challenges and crisis, and the common response to these challenges and crisis is essential for Europe's future. It was underscored that there is a need to strengthen the pan-European dialogue in order to manage all crisis generated by the was, in particular, through facilitating the social integration of Ukrainian refugees in Europe as a sign of European solidarity with Ukraine.
In this context, Mayor Vergil Chitac underscored that the support efforts of the Constanta municipality to facilitate Ukrainian refugees' presence in the city confirm and strengthen the local crisis management ability.
Also discussed and agreed upon were the areas in which joint projects can be promoted, and Ambassador Adelheid Folie voiced the entire availability of Austria's diplomatic mission in Bucharest to facilitate the initiation and implementation of these projects between Constanta city and municipalities of Austria.
