The Bacau "George Enescu" International Airport will build the first photovoltaic park in the institution's history, an investment worth over 25 million lei, the airport management announced on Thursday.
The project involves the construction of a 1.25 MW photovoltaic power plant and a 2.064 MWh energy storage system, which will generate 1,605.648 MWh of green energy annually.
As a result, the airport will cover over 70% of its own energy consumption and reduce CO2 emissions by 982.496 tonnes per year, the equivalent of planting approximately 45,000 trees annually.
'This project is not just an investment in infrastructure but a demonstration of responsibility towards the community we serve. Bacau Airport is becoming greener, more efficient and better prepared for the future,' Bacau "George Enescu" International Airport Director General Radu Bezniuc is quoted in a press release as saying.
The implementation of this major project marks the beginning of a new stage in the airport's modernisation and transition towards becoming a green and sustainable airport.
