Romanian tennis player Bianca Mei-Rosu qualified for the round of 16 of the women's singles Under-19 event, on Tuesday, at the World Junior Table Tennis Championships in Helsingborg (Sweden), announce agerpres.ro.

Bianca Mei-Rosu defeated Branna Burgos (Porto Rico), 4-1 (8-11, 11-2, 11-5, 11-3, 11-8), and in the round of 16 she will play against Taiwanese Pusyuan Cheng, on Wednesday, according to the website of the Romanian Table Tennis Federation.

In the men's singles Under-19, Darius Movileanu got defeated in the round of 16 by Chinese Ruibo Wen, the former world junior vice-champion, 0-4 (5-11, 4-11, 11-13, 5-11).

Romania is participating with six athletes, Bianca Mei-Rosu (U19), Iulian Chirita (U19), Darius Movileanu (U19), Dragos Bujor (U19), Andrei Istrate (U19), Robert Istrate (U15), in this event.

The Romanian Under-19 men's team (Iulian Chirita, Darius Movileanu, Dragos Bujor, Andrei Istrate) won the bronze medals.

At the last edition, in Slovenia, Elena Zaharia won silver in the U19 women's singles, and Eduard Ionescu won bronze in the U19 men's singles. Romania's Under-19 teams, consisting of Elena Zaharia, Ioana Singeorzan, Bianca Mei-Rosu, Alesia Sferlea, and Darius Movileanu, Eduard Ionescu, Andrei Istrate and Dragos Bujor, respectively, won bronze medals.
