The Minister of National Defence, Radu Miruta, had a meeting on Monday with the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Bucharest, Willemijn van Haaften, during which they discussed, among other things, the progress of joint projects in the defence industry.

According to a press release from the Ministry of National Defence (MApN) sent to AGERPRES on Monday, the talks at the MApN headquarters highlighted the high level of bilateral relations in the field of defence, addressing regional and European security challenges, as well as the development of joint projects in the defence industry.

'During the meeting, the importance of maintaining a strengthened allied posture on NATO's Eastern Flank was emphasised, along with the need to continue joint efforts to support Ukraine. The European F-16 Training Centre plays a key role in this regard and is considered a pillar of Romanian-Dutch cooperation. The Minister also expressed his gratitude for the Kingdom of the Netherlands' significant contribution to NATO's Battle Group in Cincu,' the press release read.

Miruta and van Haaften underlined the importance of the forthcoming North Atlantic Alliance summit, which will take place in Ankara in July this year, both in terms of reaffirming allied solidarity and maintaining the Black Sea's status as a strategically important area for regional security, MApN reported.

The Minister of Defence appreciated the Kingdom of the Netherlands' contribution to strengthening European security through its substantial support for Ukraine, reiterating Romania's openness to developing joint projects for the defence industry within European Union initiatives.

'The meeting reconfirmed the commitment of both parties to promoting a more coherent European defence and developing a capable defence industry, fully complementary to the objectives assumed within NATO,' MApN noted.
