The National Bank of Romania (BNR) on Monday launches for numismatic purposes a coin made of copper-plated tombac to mark the centennial of the Romanian Chess Federation.

According to BNR, on the obverse of the coin there is a composition featuring the rook and the pawn on a chessboard, the inscription 'ROMANIA' in an arc, the coat of arms of Romania, the face value '1 LEU' and the year of issue '2025.'

On the reverse of the coin there is a graphical depiction of a chess clock in the foreground, a chessboard in the background and the inscriptions 'FEDERATIA ROMANA DE SAH' in an arc and '100 ANI'.

The coppered tombac coins are housed in transparent plastic capsules and are embedded in presentation leaflets, being inserted in cardboard holders.

The maximum mintage is 5,000 coppered tombac coins.

The selling price for the coppered tombac coin, including the presentation leaflet and the cardboard holder, is lei 240.00, VAT excluded.

The coppered tombac coins to mark the Centennial of the Romanian Chess Federation are legal tender on the territory of Romania.

The coins are put into circulation, for numismatic purposes, through the regional branches of the National Bank of Romania in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Constanta, Craiova, Iasi and Timisoara.
