The Minister of Internal Affairs, Lucian Bode, underlines that the police enforce the law in the case of persons who do not wear properly the sanitary protection mask, specifying that, from January 8 to Wednesday, the average is "somewhere between 1,300 - 1,400 sanctions applied daily".
He was asked at a press conference at Victoria Palace on Wednesday how he would handle the situation created by the call from Europol unionists, who criticized the fact that police must check what kind of mask Romanians wear and also the fact that there are police officers who said they would refuse to impose fines on those who did not wear a mask or because it was not appropriate.
"Yes, I saw the call of a union from the many unions in the Romanian Police. I had many discussions with our structures from the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI). In turn, the structures discussed with the leadership of the Romanian Police, the Gendarmerie, the Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, we talked to the county structures, we had a video conference. (...) The joint order Order 30 of the Minister of Labour - the Minister of Health - the Minister of Internal Affairs said very clearly in Article 1: 'Improper masks are those are made of textile material and / or plastic'," explained Lucian Bode.
According to him, this is not the first time that this union has launched such appeals, stressing that the majority of police officers keep their oath.
The role of the MAI structures, he recalled, is not to sanction the citizens, but mainly to help limit the spread of the new coronavirus, Agerpres informs.
