Interim President Ilie Bolojan said on Friday that he does not believe that Romania will end up in a situation where elections are canceled, like last year.

"I do not believe that we will end up in such situations again. They are not desirable. Canceling elections and any kind of measure like this is an exceptional situation, which should not be repeated under any circumstances, and I will do everything in my power to ensure that these elections are held fairly and honestly," the interim president said during a press conference.

As to the convening of the Supreme Council for Country's Defense (CSAT), he stated that "the CSAT has certain powers and whenever there is a need to analyze, to make some decisions in the field of defense or national security, I will convene the CSAT, not necessarily in ordinary meetings, once in three months, but whenever there is a need".

"For this matter, I hope that the CSAT will no longer be needed", he added.

The interim president was asked about the change in the country's rating.

In the index compiled by The Economist, Romania's score was lowered by 0.46 points (from 6.45 to 5.99) in 2024, so that, in the conditions in which the country was already placed at the bottom of the category of states with "deficient democracy", this decrease was enough to lead to its relegation to the "hybrid regime" category.

"Any incident, in our case the cancellation of elections (...), influences the rating. And because the elections were canceled, it was obvious that this rating would be influenced. It was a clear issue. Regarding the aspects that are democratic in Romania, this will be decided by the Romanians through their vote, but I believe that in general those of us who are in an electoral competition, those of us who have positions of responsibility, are democrats if we respect constitutional values, we are democrats if through what we propose to do we respect our country and we are democrats through the behavior we have. But the Romanians will vote as they wish", replied Ilie Bolojan.
