Former Health Minister Nelu Tătaru is under investigation by DNA (National Anticorruption Directorate) prosecutors for accepting bribes. This morning, he was taken to be questioned at DNA Iași. Tătaru is accused of accepting bribes over 100 times, even accepting payments in the form of goods such as eggs or chickens.

Initial information suggests that DNA prosecutors have conducted searches related to over 100 instances of bribery, and Tătaru was taken for questioning at the DNA headquarters in Iași.

According to sources in the investigation, Tătaru allegedly accepted bribes from patients, and over 100 individual acts are being investigated. Five days ago, Tătaru had posted on Facebook: "‘Nelu, why do you work so hard at the hospital?’ a friend asked me. ‘For the patients,’ I replied. ‘Not for the money?’ they asked. ‘NO,’ I answered. In many fields, people work just for financial gain or recognition. Others work because they love what they do. Some, I don’t know how many, go to work because they like to take on challenges, even risky ones. I do everything I can for the lives and health of my patients! This is my mission! So, to those of you who find joy in doing something good every day, I admire you for what you do.”

Shortly after the news of his hearing at DNA broke, the post was no longer found on Tătaru's official Facebook page. Nelu Tătaru, leader of PNL Vaslui, is the top candidate on the party’s list for the upcoming parliamentary elections in December. He is running for a seat in the Chamber of Deputies. "In the parliamentary elections, we aim to at least maintain the score we achieved in the local elections. We know that no two elections are alike. For example, in 2020, we got 35.5% in the local elections, and within a few months, we dropped to 21.7% in the general elections. We will mobilize to achieve a good result," Tătaru said at the beginning of September, as quoted by Agerpres. Nelu Tătaru (52 years old) was appointed Minister of Health on March 26, 2020, a position he held until December 23, 2020.
