Hydroelectric power production fell last year by about 4,000 GWh due to drought, but there was an increase in photovoltaic energy, and prosumers provided 2% of all electricity production, Energy Minister Sebastian Burduja announced on Tuesday, informs Agerpres.

"In terms of nuclear energy, we are standing at similar figures [to those of 2023, editor's note], we count on and we have counted on the two nuclear reactors at Cernavoda [Nuclear Power Plant] and they are doing their job well. Unfortunately, we lost about 4,000 GWh of hydropower in 2024," minister Burduja told a press conference organized at the end of the Winter Energy Command Center meeting.

Thus, the minister added, if in 2023 Romania produced 57,371 GWh, in 2024 it produced about 52,997 GWh, so about 10% less.

"It really confirms that we had a very dry year. What's more, we also lost in wind power production last year somewhere between 7,500 and 6,300, because there was less wind," Burduja emphasized.

The minister emphasized, however, that in the photovoltaic area, i.e. solar parks, production increased from 1,600 to 2,200 GWh.

"We also have 1,000 GWh from prosumers. So somewhere around 2% of Romania's total energy production last year was from prosumers, and that doesn't take into account what they consumed where they have their PV panels and/or storage. It is their net production, from which we subtract consumption," Sebastian Burduja pointed out.
