Investigators conducted searches on Tuesday at the homes of Calin Georgescu's close associates, including his campaign manager Radu Pally.
Georgescu confirmed in a Facebook message that raids also targeted the headquarters of the "Ancestral Land" Association, where the former presidential candidate is a founding member.
"Commie police agent Predoiu and a bunch of prosecutors this morning sent the balaklava-masked men to the house of my campaign manager Radu Pally. I imperiously demand for this abuse to stop - you cannot intimidate us - we won't be brought to our knees! Update: We want Good and they want Evil. The same happened at the headquarters of the 'Ancestral Land' Association, also this morning," Georgescu wrote.
According to judicial sources, the searches are being carried out as part of the case opened in December 2024 by the General Prosecutor's Office, which is looking at possible law violations during Calin Georgescu's electoral campaign.
The raids were also indirectly confirmed by the Romanian Police General Inspectorate, which issued a statement rejecting Georgescu's accusations that the activity of police officers was politically-commanded.
"We reject and condemn any unfounded accusation about the police professional activity getting politicised. The activities are carried out as part of a criminal case, under the coordination of the relevant Prosecutor's Office unit and in compliance with the current legal framework. All activities of our institution, in all criminal cases, take place under the coordination of the Prosecutor's Office units and under the authority of case prosecutors, with the sole purpose of discovering the truth," reads the IGPR release.
