Romanian para-table tennis player Camelia Ciripan secured on Wednesday a place on the podium after qualifying for the semifinals of the women's singles table tennis event (WS6) at the Paris Paralympic Games, as she dramatically defeated Great Britain's Felicity Pickard 3-2 (6-11, 8-11, 12-10, 11-8, 11-8), informs Agerpres.
The Romanian bounced back from 0-2 in the sets and won after 40 minutes of play.
On Saturday, in the penultimate act, 45-year-old Ciripan will face Ukrainian Marina Litovchenko.
Camelia Ciripan, named Romanian Paralympic Athlete of 2022 following her bronze medal win at the World Para Table Tennis Championships in Spain, was Romania's flag bearer at the opening ceremony of the Paris Paralympics.
Romania participates with lineup of six in the 2024 edition of the Paralympic Games: Alexandru Bologa and Daniel Vargoczki in judo, Eduard Novak and Theodor Matican in cycling, Camelia Ciripan and Bobi Simion in table tennis.
