The Bucharest Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIB) awarded on Wednesday, at the XXXII edition of the Top of Companies in Bucharest, 7,567 companies that achieved a cumulative turnover of 687 billion lei (135 billion euros).
The number of awarded companies was 2% higher than the previous edition of the Top.
The Bucharest Chamber also awarded a series of special prizes, with the Economic News Flow of the National News Agency AGERPRES receiving the trophy "for excellence and professionalism in economic journalism".
"In a world where the rules of the game are changing more and more rapidly, being efficient becomes an act of vision and resilience. Performance is not measured only in profit, but in the way you manage to create sustainable value for partners, clients, team and for the community as a whole. Excellence in business is built year after year with a strategy applied with ambition, consistency, but also with responsibility, with a balance between the desire to win and respect for competitors", declared Iuliu Stocklosa, president of CCIB, at the opening of the event.
He said that, according to the methodology, of the 178,000 companies headquartered in Bucharest, which submitted their balance sheets for 2024 (up 5% compared to the previous year), 69,000 companies (39%) met the eligibility criteria. Of these, the Bucharest Chamber awarded 7,567 companies, respectively 11% of the total number of companies considered eligible.
Stocklosa mentioned that, in order to achieve the most objective ranking possible, within each group, companies are awarded in five size classes: very large, large, medium, small and micro enterprises.
"Analyzing the figures that mark the XXXII edition of the Top, in a national context, we were pleased to find that 47% of the companies awarded by us this year are also laureates at the national level. Specifically, 27% of the companies awarded this year in the National Top are from the Capital. They are companies with an exceptional performance and with a major impact on the national economy. I will give just one example: the 3,556 Bucharest companies qualified in the National Top recorded an operating profit of 12%, well above average", the president of the CCIB also said.
He emphasized that the 7,567 companies in the Top achieved a cumulative turnover of 135 billion euros, an operating profit of 13 billion euros and generated 594,000 jobs, "which constitutes a remarkable performance in the current macroeconomic context".
Regarding the structure by fields of activity, 35% of the companies awarded by the Bucharest Chamber of Commerce operate in the services sector, 28% in trade, 20% in industry, 6.4% in construction, 5.6% in research, development and high-tech, 3% in tourism and 2% in agriculture, forestry and fishing.
With an unemployment rate of only 0.6%, compared to 3.2% nationally, the capital city accounts for 25% of the national GDP, 22.4% of all active companies in Romania, 21.3% of all employees in the country, almost 30% of the sales area and retail sales at the national level, 17% of the value of Romanian exports and 30.4% of the value of imports made by Romania, and about 60% of the country's scientific research activity.
In Bucharest, 122,000 companies with foreign capital operate (44.4% of the total recorded at national level), with a cumulative invested share capital of 26.9 billion euros, respectively 52% of the total share capital invested at national level by companies with foreign participation in the capital.
