Authorization for grain exports to the Chinese market is getting closer to approval, after the National Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety Authority (ANSVSA) officially submitted the technical documentation - a key step toward opening this market - Agriculture Minister Florin Barbu announced on Thursday.
"Today, at the headquarters of the Romanian Embassy in the People's Republic of China, I held working meetings with representatives of COFCO and with Sebastien Jia, Vice President for International Trade at WH Group, one of the most important companies in China's agri-food sector. ANSVSA has officially submitted the technical documentation for authorizing grain exports, an essential stage for opening this market. We want that, after this summer's harvest, a significant share of the grain produced in Romania to be exported to China," Florin Barbu wrote on Facebook.
He added that the talks also focused on investment opportunities in Romania and on developing cooperation between major Chinese companies, Romanian farmers and Romanian processors.
"At the meeting, which was also attended by Mr. Bai Yong, President and COFCO Corporation Board member, and in the presence of Romania's ambassador to China, Dan-Horia Maxim, we discussed investment opportunities in Romania. In talks with WH Group, we addressed the development of cooperation between major Chinese companies, Romanian farmers and Romanian processors, so that added value remains in the country. Romania must export more, process more and earn more from its own agricultural production. This is our objective," Barbu also wrote.
Agriculture Minister Florin Barbu and the president of the National Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety Authority, Alexandru Nicolae Bociu, are on an official visit to the People's Republic of China over March 16 - 20.
