Romania is the main 'advocate' of the Republic of Moldova's accession to the European Union, and this should translate into stronger economic cooperation and more joint projects funded through European programmes, Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies and Social Democratic Party (PSD) Chairman Sorin Grindeanu said on Thursday, as he welcomed Moldovan Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu, at the Parliament Palace on the latter's official visit to Bucharest.

'Romania is the main advocate of the Republic of Moldova's accession to the European Union, and this should be reflected in more intensive economic cooperation and more joint projects financed through European funds, in the interest of all. Today, I conveyed to Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu Romania's unequivocal support for the accelerated accession of the Republic of Moldova to the EU and the immediate start of chapter-by-chapter negotiations. I believe that political support means constant dialogue with pro-European parties in the Republic of Moldova, cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries, as well as strengthening relations between local administrations and increasing the presence of Romanian companies in the Republic of Moldova,' Grindeanu wrote on Facebook.

According to him, the war in Ukraine has shown how 'fragile' the region is. 'We support the strengthening of the Republic of Moldova's administrative and defence capacity through partnerships with the European Union, NATO and Romania,' Sorin Grindeanu said.
