PNL deputy Sebastian Burduja declared himself convinced, on Monday, that the Minister of Environment, Diana Buzoianu, will support the completion of the hydroelectric power plants.

Sebastian Burduja stated, in the plenary session of the Chamber of Deputies, during the debate on the simple motion filed by AUR against the Minister of the Environment, that today's opposition has very often promoted all kinds of "conspiracy narratives" and "fake" news in the energy sector.

He mentioned that, although the motion "Weakening Romania's energy security through environmental policies that obstruct the commissioning of hydropower plants started before 1989" targets a member of the Government, the issue raised does not target the Executive. At the same time, the former Minister of Energy accused some environmental associations of blocking investments in hydropower plants.

"The country's energy security should be a matter of consensus between us, on which we agree. The minister did not come and no one came to modify the decisions of the CSAT. Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, when he was interim president, called me to the CSAT and I supported a project to accelerate investments in hydroelectric power plants, which the CSAT approved in principle and I am convinced that we will see it put into operation. The problem of these investments is often found in the blockages of one or two environmental associations. If you have been or if you will go to Rastolita or the Dumitra step, which is 98% completed, you would see very clearly the need to complete these investments," Burduja said.

According to him, the completion of the hydroelectric power plants is included in the government program. He said he was convinced that the Minister of Environment, Diana Buzoianu, would support these investments, just as her predecessor, Mircea Fechet, did.

"At the Ministry of Environment, Mircea Fechet, my colleague, had many sleepless nights, so that together we could resume these investments, because there are 700 megawatts, because there are billions of euros that the Romanian state has spent, because the protected natural areas have come on top of these investments started decades ago - as is the case in Bumbesti-Jiu, Rastolita, and other places - and because, many times, bringing the land to its original form would be much more harmful to the environment than completing two, three, ten or twenty percent," explained Sebastian Burduja.

The MP said he was convinced that Diana Buzoianu would present a committed timetable for each project. The investments support the economic development and energy security of Romanians, he pointed out.

"I believe that these things, beyond political gestures, should bring us together. I am convinced that Minister Buzoianu will continue to support these things and will present very clearly, for each project, an assumed calendar, with assumed steps for completing the approval. That's how I worked with Mr. Fechet, who had a large board with Rastolita on his desk, with each step. It's true, the scheme is complicated, Mrs. Buzoianu showed it to us earlier. But, if you stick to the rules, the procedures, the steps - and, believe me, we really did stick to them - these investments must be completed", said the PNL deputy.
