The National Meteorological Administration (ANM) issued a Code Yellow warning for strong winds on Monday, valid throughout the day in areas of 24 counties, as well as an advisory for rain and a sharp drop in temperatures covering the entire country until Thursday morning.
According to meteorologists, between 10:00 and 21:00 today, winds will strengthen in Oltenia, south-western and north-eastern Muntenia, central and southern Moldavia, most of Transylvania, the Banat Mountains, the Southern Carpathians and the Curvature Carpathians, with speeds of 50-70 km/h, and 80-90 km/h at altitudes above 1,700 metres.
Moreover, from 10:00 on 21 September to 10:00 on 24 September, an advisory for strong winds and a sharp drop in temperatures will be in effect across most of the country. Winds will temporarily strengthen on Monday (21 September) in most regions and on Tuesday (22 September) in Oltenia, locally in Banat, Muntenia and the mountains, with speeds generally of 45-55 km/h, while in high mountain areas winds will reach 70-80 km/h.
According to the specialist forecast, temperatures will drop sharply (by an average of 8-12 degrees), with the weather becoming cold for this time of year on Monday in the northern half of the country and on Tuesday and Wednesday in the southern half as well. Maximum temperatures will generally range between 14 and 21 degrees, while overnight lows from Tuesday to Wednesday (22/23 September) and Wednesday to Thursday (23/24 September) will range between 2 and 11 degrees, with the lowest values in depressions, where frost may occur.
There will also be periods of showers, temporarily accompanied by thunderstorms, on Monday in the north, centre, east and south-east, followed by other parts of the country. Hail will fall in isolated areas, particularly in the south-east on Monday evening and in the south on Tuesday afternoon. Rainfall totals will reach 10-15 litres/sq m and, in some areas, 20-30 litres/sq m.
From Monday night into Tuesday, there will also be occasional sleet, graupel and snow in mountainous areas, particularly at altitudes above 1,700 metres.
