COVID-19 death toll, up to three in Romania

A 70-year-old man, infected with the novel coronavirus, died Sunday night, the death toll reaching three, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS) reports.

"It's about a 70-year-old man who was admitted to Piatra Neamt County Hospital. He tested positive on March 19 and transferred to the Infectious Diseases Hospital in Iasi on March 20," the cited source says.

According to GCS, the patient had pre-existing chronic conditions (diabetes, high blood pressure).

"Following the epidemiological investigation, no history of travel or contact with an infected person was found," the same source states.

Also on Sunday, two other Romanians died on the country's territory. The first Romanian who died following infection with the coronavirus was a 67-year-old patient confirmed with COVID-19 on 18 March 2020 at UPU within Filiasi Hospital and transferred to SCBI Craiova on the same date. The patient had very serious pre-existing conditions, end-stage neoplastic disease (cancer). He had returned from France.

The second Romanian who died after being infected with the novel coronavirus was 74 years old and had been admitted to the Clinical Hospital of Infectious and Tropical Diseases Dr. Victor Babes - Bucharest, transferred from the Emergency University Hospital of Bucharest, with a pre-existing chronic illness for which he was on dialysis.AGERPRES
