President of the Romanian Senate Mircea Abrudean (PNL) told AGERPRES on Friday that he is confident that, despite certain statements and tensions in the public sphere, the governing coalition will endure, that the Social Democratic Party (PSD) will remain in the government and that the 2026 budget will pass Parliament's vote 'without problems.', conform Agerpres.
'I believe it will endure. There have been turbulences before, they are somewhat normal, and it is also a more complicated period. Everyone is sometimes more productive in political statements than they should be in this situation we are in, but I believe there are still responsible people in all the parties in the coalition who understand the importance of Romania's political stability, especially in this complicated context, with wars at the border and with the conflict in the Middle East, which affects us from an energy point of view. It is not the moment for political instability, because that would lead Romania into a prolonged crisis that nobody needs,' Mircea Abrudean said.
The Senate president also believes that the Social Democratic Party will not leave the government and stressed that he does not wish this either. He also said he is convinced that the budget will pass Parliament 'without problems'.
'I do not think the Social Democratic Party will leave the government, I do not want that and I do not think anyone wants it, because in the end it is the largest party in the coalition and so far things have functioned normally. The functioning of the coalition can be seen in the vote, not in political statements and not on television. Here everyone sometimes speaks too much, in my opinion. But when it has come to voting, the coalition has functioned very well, it has rejected all motions of censure (...) we have a draft budget adopted by this coalition and I believe the budget will pass Parliament without problems,' the Senate president also said.
Mircea Abrudean is a PNL senator for Cluj constituency, a former Secretary General of the Government and former prefect of Cluj County.
