A cultural project to popularize the values of Bessarabian culture among the Romanian public, which focuses on the built heritage, will take place at ARCUB - the Cultural Center of the Municipality of Bucharest.

"We discussed several historical monuments and public spaces in Chisinau, whose fate was debated in the public space and in whose defense professional communities and civil society stood in solidarity. The project team included historians, museographers, librarians, archivists and researchers in the field, visual artists, filmmakers, as well as important representatives and active members of civil society," the organizers of the event said in a press release.

Part of the research results have been grouped into an exhibition that includes informative texts, collages from vintage and recent photographs, objects, posters and works, audio and video recordings related to the state of conservation of the buildings. The title of the exhibition, "Chisinau on the red line", takes up an expression used by the architects of Chisinau, designating the buildings built on the alignment of the street, as an additional emphasis on the state of the architectural landscape in the lives of the inhabitants.

The exhibition is accompanied by a catalogue, with summary studies on the architecture and history of the edifices discussed, accompanied by information on the social context and recent history. The exhibition can be visited from September 15 to October 6.

The launch on September 14 will end with the conference "Chisinau, the right to the city", with the participation of representatives of several NGOs from Chisinau. In the foreground will be the evolution of civic activism in the Republic of Moldova and case studies about the most recent "struggles" to save urban heritage. The presentations of the activists from Chisinau will be discussed with the participation of civil society representatives from Bucharest.

During the project's launch event in Bucharest, the documentary "Dear Chisinau", a film that "gives a voice" to members of civil society and representatives of the cultural sector in Chisinau, will be screened for the absolute premiere.

The event is organized by the Arbor Culture and Arts Association (Romania) and the Arbor Institute for Culture (Republic of Moldova), with the support of ARCUB and in partnership with the National History Museum of Moldova, the National Library of the Republic of Moldova, with non-governmental organizations and several initiatives citizens, with the financial support of the National Cultural Fund Administration and the Swiss Government, through the Swiss Cooperation Office in the Republic of Moldova.
