The minister of national defence, Ionut Mosteanu, on Monday met, at the institution's headquarters, with the Hungarian ambassador to Romania, Katalin Kissne Hlatki, discussing, among other things, regional support for strengthening the deterrence and defence posture of the two countries within NATO.
According to a press release of the Ministry of National Defence sent to AGERPRES on Monday, this is the first meeting of the two officials after the presentation of their letters of accreditation on July 8.
"During the discussions, the two dignitaries addressed a series of topics regarding bilateral cooperation, regional support for strengthening the deterrence and defence posture within NATO and ongoing projects at the EU level," the press release states.
According to the same press release, the minister of national defence welcomed the participation in the Bucharest Nine (B9) and the Three Seas Initiative (I3M) regional formats, emphasising that Romania attaches great importance to joint projects, such as the Romanian-Hungarian Joint Peacekeeping Battalion and the TISA Multinational Engineer Battalion.
Ionut Mosteanu stated that joint military drills and activities represent an opportunity to strengthen cohesion between NATO member states, as well as to strengthen interoperability. In this regard, he pointed out that our country encourages participation in multinational exercises organized on Romanian territory.
The Romanian official also mentioned the importance of the support provided to our partners in the immediate vicinity, Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova, as well as to the states in the Western Balkans region, reiterating the fact that Romania remains a committed, solid and active ally in ensuring security on the allied eastern flank.
