DefMin Motoc meets Canadian counterpart, Harjit Singh Sajjan

National Defence Minister Mihnea Motoc had a meeting with his Canadian counterpart Harjit Singh Sajjan and on this occasion he underlined the recent decision to contribute with general staff personnel to the effort of making operational the Multinational Brigade in Craiova, mentioning the intention of continuing to deploy F-18 fight aircraft detachments and Canadian frigates to the territory of Romania and in the Black Sea, the National Defence Ministry (MApN) informs.

According to the quoted source the two officials stressed out during the discussions the necessity to continue and intensify the bilateral cooperation in the defence area, in the current regional and international security context, characterized by particularly complex and concerning evolutions. At the same time, the importance of coordinating positions on an allied level was underlined, in order to implement the decisions adopted at the Warsaw Summit with an emphasis on the ones which targeted advanced presence of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) on the eastern flank.

"The Romanian National Defence Minister express his gratitude for Canada's solidarity and commitment in strengthening NATO's deterrence capacity on the eastern flank, mentioning the constant presence of Canadian armed forces in exercises carried out on the territory of our country and in the Black Sea region, on all three operational dimensions- air, land and sea. He especially noted the Canadian air detachment deployment, with F-18 aircraft in Romania both in 2014 to Campia Turzii and in 2016 to Mihail Kogalniceanu, as well as the presence of the Canadian frigates in the Black Sea," the release mentions.

The Canadian official highlighted that the Ottawa authorities are unitary approaching the entire allied eastern flank, and as a result they are participating in the efforts of strengthening the deterrence position both on the Northern and Southern segment.

The bilateral meeting between the two ministers took place on Wednesday on the sidelines of the Defence Ministers' Meetings of the NATO's member states.
