AGERPRES special correspondent Cristian Lupascu reports: The Republic of Moldova's Deputy Prime Minister, Doina Nistor, minister of Development and Digitalization, stated that Romania is a strategic partner for the Republic Moldova and its "number one partner" in trade and investment.
The Moldovan official emphasized that this partnership could also expand into education, information technology, and research.
"Romania is a strategic partner for the Republic of Moldova. We are developing not only a unique regional investment space, but Romania is also the Republic of Moldova's gateway to the European Union market. Over the past few years, the Republic of Moldova has repositioned from traditional markets Russia, the CIS [Commonwealth of Independent States] toward the EU market. Already 67% of the Republic of Moldova's goods exports go to the EU, with Romania as the largest trading partner," Doina Nistor told AGERPRES on Tuesday.
According to the Moldovan deputy prime minister, more than 1,600 Romanian investors are active in Moldova.
"We have over 1,600 investors from Romania and we see growing interest. As you may have seen at Moldova Business Week, there is a large Romanian delegation, and we hope these investments will increase. We see interest in certain sectors, from construction to agro-food, even pharmaceuticals and healthcare, where Moldova wants to develop new competencies," Nistor added.
The deputy prime minister also believes Romania will play an important role in developing the Republic of Moldova's infrastructure, in the context of a EUR 1.9 billion financial package provided by the European Union. She further suggested that Moldova and Romania could play a "joint role" in Ukraine's reconstruction.
