DIICOT detains 87 suspects in major crackdown on organised crime

Between 10 and 13 June, police officers, alongside prosecutors and gendarmes, carried out over 260 searches and implemented 230 subpoena mandates as part of Operation 'Ziua Z'/D-Day, aimed to dismantling organised criminal groups specialising in human and child trafficking, drug trafficking, child pornography, cybercrime and fraud.

During the operation, the Romanian Police, together with the Directorate for Investigating Organised Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) and with the support of the Romanian Gendarmerie, took action to obtain evidence on the activities of organised criminal groups and other persons involved in crimes associated with organised crime, according to a press release from the General Inspectorate of the Romanian Police (IGPR) sent to AGERPRES on Monday.

As part of ongoing cooperation through Eurojust, 13 search warrants were also executed in the Republic of Moldova and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Six kilograms of psychoactive substances, two cannabis crops, various quantities of cannabis, cannabis resin, cannabis seeds, ketamine, heroin, tablets and 437 doses of high-risk drugs and psychoactive substances, equipment for growing and maintaining cannabis plants, computer systems, data storage media, two non-lethal weapons subject to authorisation, bank cards, documents and other relevant evidence were discovered and seized.

At the same time, a preventive seizure measure was imposed on nine cars and approximately 240,000 RON, 55,000 EUR and 11,500 GBP.

"Following the administration of the evidence, DIICOT prosecutors took measures to detain 87 people. Thirty-six people are being investigated in preventive detention, and two are under house arrest," the cited source said.

In addition, 30 individuals have been placed under judicial supervision by DIICOT prosecutors or the competent courts in accordance with the law. AGERPRES
