Iasi-born director Cristian Mungiu, the initiator of the Les Films de Cannes a Bucarest festival, one of the most expected cultural events in the Capital, will officially open the first edition of the pilot event Les Films de Cannes a Iasi.
According to a press release, the event will be carried out October 28 - 29, at the Tatarasi Athenaeum of Iasi.
"Cristian Mungiu will meet the public on Friday, at 16:30, at the projection of Maren Ade's "Toni Edrman" comedy, the favourite of the international press in Cannes and Germany's proposal for the Oscar. Also taking the event stage will be film critic Irina Margareta Nistor, who will introduce the films in the programme, and journalist Andrei Giurgia. Moreover, the director will participate in the "Bacalaureat" ("Graduation") projection on Saturday, at 12:30, a film signed by Mungiu having won the Award for Best Director ex-aequo in Cannes," the cited release mentions.
According to the document, the people of Iasi will have the opportunity to spend the weekend in a special atmosphere, with a highly-expected film selection from the Cannes 2016 official competition. Premiering in Iasi will be Palme d'Or Award winning film "I, Daniel Blake" (directed by Ken Loach), winner of the Grand Prix and the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury at the International Cannes Film Festival 2016 - "Juste la fin du monde" ("It's Only The End of the World") - directed by Xavier Dolan, Pedro Almodovar's most recent film and Spain's proposal for the Oscar "Julieta", the only film in the official competition in Cannes which won two trophies: the Award for Best Actor and the Award for Best Screenplay - "The Salesman" - directed by Asghar Farhadi, and "The Neon Demon" - directed by Nicolas Winding Refn and starring Elle Fanning.
