Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) Liviu Dragnea mocked on Wednesday the letter in which leaders of the party request his resignation as leader of the party and as Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies.
"I will read that letter. I haven not read it entirely, but from what I gathered, I understood what the biggest gripe was: we must stop arguing with Iohannis, in fact we must align with Iohannis, with SRI [the Romanian Intelligence Service, e.n.], with SPP [the Protection and Guard Service, e.n.] and with DNA [the National Anticorruption Directorate, e.n.] and with the parties from the Opposition. I, as chairman, cannot and will not lead this party in becoming a tool of these institutions, institutions that shouldn't be involved in politics," Dragnea stated in Parliament.
The PSD leaders signed an open letter in which they demand the "immediate resignation" of Liviu Dragnea as leader of PSD and Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies and with Prime Minister Viorica Dancila to take over as interim head of the party.
The document is signed by the PSD Deputy Chairman Paul Stanescu, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Regional Development and Public Administration, Gabriela Firea, Deputy Chairman of PSD and General Mayor of Bucharest and Adrian Tutuianu, PSD's Deputy Chairman and Senate Deputy President.
