Romania women's tennis team wins first match against France in Billie Jean King Cup

Romania women's tennis team leads the French team 1-0 in Group C of the Europe/Africa zone of Group 1 of the Billie Jean King Cup, at the Complexo de Tenis do Jamor in Oeiras (Portugal), after Carmen-Andreea Herea defeated the well-known player Kristina Mladenovic, 6-3, 6-2.

Herea (553 WTA) achieved the win in 67 minutes against Mladenovic (32 years old) who ranks 878th in the world's singles rankings.

In the second singles match, Elena Ruxandra Bertea (292 WTA) will face Leolia Jeanjean (124 WTA).

The doubles match pits the pairs Ilinca-Dalina Amariei/Carmen Andreea Herea against Kristina Mladenovic/Tiantsoa Sarah Rakotomanga Rajaonah.

Romania and France have faced each other twice, at the women's national team level, each achieving a victory.

In the first group matches in Oeiras, Romania was defeated by Latvia 2-1, and France disposed of Norway 3-0. Also on Wednesday, France beat Latvia 3-0, and Romania defeated Norway 3-0.

Romania women's team meets the teams of France, Latvia and Norway, in Group C of the Europe/Africa zone of Group I of the Billie Jean King Cup, the matches being scheduled in Oeiras (Portugal), between 7-11 April.

Non-playing captain Alexandra Dulgheru has called up Elena-Ruxandra Bertea, Gabriela Lee, Ilinca-Dalina Amariei, Carmen-Andreea Herea and Anamaria-Federica Oana for this tournament.
